More model informationA portion of a ridge in the Alabama Hills. Although the rocks exposed in these low hills west of Lone Pine are similar in age to the rocks that form the high Sierra crest (82-85 Ma), they are much more deeply weathered. A combination of chemical and physical weathering causes exfoliation of the closely jointed monzogranite, resulting in perched spheroidal boulders and an awesome landscape for moonlight hikes.
