More model informationDisharmonically folded lacustrine beds of Mono Lake, interpreted as seismites. Intense ground shaking during an earthquake partially liquified the uppermost (not compacted) sediments, allowing them to fold in a chaotic fashion. Underlying lake beds were not affected due to their greater degree of compaction, and the undeformed overlying beds were deposited after the earthquake.
