Over 5,000 years old, Skara Brae is the best-preserved Neolithic settlement in Western Europe. First uncovered by a storm in 1850, this Neolithic village is remarkable for the quality of its preservation, including the furniture inside the houses. Skara Brae is a part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its importance.
