Have you ever wondered about the mechanism of a piano? How is it possible that a simple strike of a piano key, is able to produce such a beautiful resonance which can captivate the heart of many people?

The “action” is a mechanism which basically produces the sound of a piano. It is extremely responsive to the player’s touch and therefore you can play the piano as loudly or softly as you desire (hence the name “piano” shortened from “pianoforte” meaning “soft” and “loud” respectively in Italian). The model published here is a grand piano action, devised by C.F. Theodore Steinway in 1875 and has been in used since with minor improvements throughout the years.
