More model informationThis virtual reconstruction shows how the tomb of Robert the Bruce may have appeared in the 14th century. The original was lost during the Reformation, a period of religious and political upheaval.
Robert the Bruce was King of Scots from 1306-1329 and was buried in a marble tomb at Dunfermline Abbey. In 1818, fragments of gilded stone were found and given to The Hunterian and National Museums of Scotland.
Based on those finds, this 3D reconstruction was created in 2014 to mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. To learn more about the reconstruction and the lost tomb, head over to the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework.
