We spent 5 days on an intensive blacksmith course with Richard. From complete novices me and my partner learnt loads of skills and techniques which have resulted in some great decorative pieces. Richard is very skilled and knowledgable with loads of experience in his craft and his teaching really helped us gain confidence. We are so pleased we did the course and love the items we have produced - would love to return at some point.

Fantastic day doing the axe making workshop. Richard is a great instructor, makes everyone feel welcome and is passionate about his craft. The setup at the forges is spacious and plenty of high quality tools to use. Amazing going from a piece of stock to a finished axe in a day.

Knife making day- the whole day was packed with information on the process of bladesmithing. In addition Richard also gave us information on how to set up a forge on a budget at home. The day felt like it was over in 3hours not rushed but constant progression with some tea breaks woven in. Overall a great day on my feet hitting stuff, melting stuff, grinding stuff, carving stuff, learning stuff. 😁

I attended a blacksmithing course with Richard and it was a fantastic experience. Richard is an excellent teacher - very patient and clear in his explanations. He doesn’t just show you what to do, he also explains why each step in the process matters, from heating the metal correctly, to striking it at the right angle, to shaping and finishing. He even highlights what can go wrong if you skip a step or rush it, which really helped me understand the craft rather than just follow instructions. The forge itself is well equipped, and his friendly collie adds a warm, welcoming touch to the whole day. Highly recommend this course to anyone curious about blacksmithing, you’ll walk away with both new skills and a real appreciation of the process.

We have been a few times now, and it has been great every time. Great facility, expert tuition, and a great atmosphere all day. Between us, we have done the experience day, axe making, and a custom knife making course for 5. Highly recommended, treat yourself or your loved ones, or develop the skills to start a new hobby.
